A French national has been arrested by wildlife officials for allegedly trespassing and pitching a tent at Eravikulam National Park in Idukki district in Kerala.

Forty four-year-old Ludovic Rebillard, a software engineer, was remanded to 14 days of judicial custody by the Judicial Magistrate at Devikulam.

Wildlife Warden PU Saju said that the French Consulate in Puducherry had been informed of Rebillard’s arrest on the charge of trespassing and occupying the park on Thursday without prior permission.

Mr Rebillard had approached forest officials a few days back and the District Tourism Promotion Council for permission to trek to Anamudi Peak, the highest point of the Western Ghats.
